Customer Reviews:
Expensive, but still a good value
Our previous 3/4 hp In-Sink-Erator finally wore out after 20 years of service. We loved the cover-control on the old model, and I was shocked to find that it’s such a rare feature. This high-end unit had it, and I wouldn’t have been nearly as happy with wall-switch versions, which we’ve had in the past. The cover control means you never have to worry about you (or a guest) turning on the disposer when intending to turn on a light. No worries about using an electrical switch with wet hands. Kids are less likely to overload the unit by force-feeding, because the cover is in place when the unit is turned on.
I had never installed a sink disposer before, but I had installed our dishwasher and done similar tasks around the house. Instructions were clear, and I did the whole thing in a couple of hours replacing everything including the drain flange (included with the disposer).
This unit is whisper-quiet, and the 3/4 hp motor never breaks a sweat.
As I said in the title, this one’s pretty expensive, but our previous one lasted 20 years and this one seems even sturdier.
Expensive But Worth It
I’m impressed at the obvious build quality of the cover control model. It replaced an 18 year old Insinkerator cover control model that suddenly wouldn’t turn off and became a shock hazard. This Evolution model snapped right into the old mount (real time-saver) and took about 2 hours to complete including minor plumbing changes. This is my 5th disposal install over the years and was the simplest. It’s expensive, but cheaper at Amazon.com than some other online retailers I looked at.
Buyer Beware if Your Sink is Cast Iron
I’ve had insinkerators in my last two homes. Very convenient. When mine broke down, I went with the new model which has a magnetic on/off switch. Seemed very advanced. Also great price on Amazon. Warranteed for 7 years in home. HOWEVER, after it was installed by the plumber, you couldn’t get the thing to turn off. Called for service. They agreed to come but said if it isn’t the device, they would charge $250 for a service call (as much as I paid for the insinkerator). Called back the plumber. He called service. Apparently, because my white sink is cast iron, it needs a different part to fit in the drain. Service knew the part number without looking it up. The part, which is an inch or so longer than the one that comes with the insinkerator, cost $75! That’s one third the price of the whole shebang. Unfortunately I was too far down the road to turn back. Given the additional expense, the fancy magnetic switch and whisper quiet operation have lost some of their luster. At least they could warn you on the box or in the sales info that you could get banged for an additional $75 for a part that looks like it costs about a buck. Talk about money down the drain!

InSinkErator® Evolution Series® Disposers feature patented MultiGrind® and SoundSeal® technologies, which means they grind more with less noise. The Evolution Cover Control® Food Waste Disposer offers the extra assurance of covered operation. Activated by the magnetic CoverStart® switch, it runs only when the cover is on. The Evolution Cover Control® features MultiGrind® to grind everything from artichokes to rib bones, and SoundSeal Plus™ technology that cuts noise levels by up to 60% over standard disposers.
Evolution Technology: Grind More, Hear Less
For nearly eight decades, InSinkErator® has built more than 100 million food waste disposers. Now the company has put everything it has learned into a line of disposers that sets dramatic new standards for performance. Evolution Series® disposers feature innovative technologies–MultiGrind® and SoundSeal®–that address users’ two most common requests: improved grinding ability and reduced noise.
Liquify Waste with MultiGrind™ Technology With the Cover Control’s MultiGrind® feature, you can efficiently grind difficult food items like bones. This two-stage technology uses a GrindShear Ring® that enables you to grind food waste significantly better than you could in any previous disposer.
With the Evolution Cover Control®, celery, potato peels, artichokes, rib bones, and more are virtually liquefied to safely flow into your sewage system. You’ll enjoy a cleaner food preparation area, and less bagged garbage cluttering your home.
60% Less Noise with SoundSeal Plus™ Technology SoundSeal Plus™ Technology utilizes an Anti-Vibration Mount®, an Anti-Vibration Tailpipe Mount™, and Quiet Collar® Sink Baffle, so you can hold a conversation with elevated voices while the disposer is running. This technology also includes SoundLimiter™ insulation to reduce noise levels by up to 60% compared to standard disposers.

‘Evolutionary’ Disposer is Easy to Install
Designed with a 3/4-horsepower Dura-Drive® Induction Motor, the Evolution Cover Control® is truly ‘evolutionary’–giving you the horsepower you need to grind more types of food waste than standard disposers. An added bonus, the Evolution Cover Control’s 40-ounce stainless steel grind chamber and grind component is built to handle more volume than other disposers.
The Evolution Cover Control® food waste disposer is constructed with a stainless steel Quick Lock® sink mount for easy installation. All InSinkErator® food waste disposers are built with this feature, making replacement of older units a breeze–simply disconnect and replace your old disposer using the same sink mount.
Environmentally Friendly, Wallet-Friendly Choice
The Evolution Cover Control® food waste disposer is a practical and environmentally responsible way to help reduce the 31 million tons of solid waste generated from food scraps in the U.S. each year.
Instead of throwing this food waste away, grinding it with the Evolution Cover Control® sends it to your local municipal wastewater treatment plant, where it can be recycled to produce methane, a renewable source of power for the plant. Additionally, wastewater treatment plants can process food waste into biosolids to be used as fertilizer (check the plant in your area).
Food waste disposers average less than 50 cents a year in electricity to operate and account for less than one percent of ahousehold’s total water consumption. In fact, the Evolution Cover Control® features an average water usage of one gallon per person per day and an average electrical usage of three to four kilowatt hours per year, making it among the least expensive installed kitchen appliances.
We Come To You® Parts and Labor Warranty
The Evolution Cover Control® is backed by an exclusive seven-year We Come to You® In-Home Service Warranty. This warranty from InSinkErator® includes free house calls (including parts and labor) for the entire warranty period.
