(Not actually under 13, just didn’t want to register.) Overall, I like the camcorder.4
I just bought the 59 about a week ago, and I’m pretty happy with it.
First of all, don’t expect much from the still shots. The pics you’ll take with it won’t be meant for framing or printing. They look decent on the computer, though. Plus, outdoor pics are recommended. The light on the camcorder may help a little in my dimly lit house, but the picture is MUCH better outdoors.
The video quality is surprisingly good. The light is pretty much useless in video mode, though. It drops your frame rate and creates ‘ghosting’, where the recording kind of smears a little bit. Again, make sure you don’t record in too dim of an area, or else your shots might look a little grainy. Remember that the video taken from your camcorder will usually look worse on the computer screen than on a standard television. The menu and options are easy to navigate, and it gives me all the options I need.
It comes with all the cables you’ll need. It comes with a vcr cable (minijack to 3-way RCA composite), usb cable, and a power cable/battery charging station. Make sure you have usb 2.0 on your computer for easier transfers. When transfering pictures to your computer, set the camcorder to PC mode. When transferring video, set the camcorder to video playback mode.
My favorite thing about the camcorder is its physical characteristics. It is extremely small and light, the joystick and zoom are easy to use, and the wheel makes changing modes easy. The only thing I don’t like about the outside is the location of the tape loader. It’s right where the handstrap is. Just make sure your hand is not in the strap when opening the tape compartment.
The software is good, but your computer has to bee in 1024×768 resolution or higher. Mine’s in 800×600, and the software refuses to load. I just can’t stand 1024×768 mode, so I just use different software.
Overall, I feel that this camcorder is great for those of you who are budget-concious, starting out, and are looking for an overall clear and good-quality video image.

Good, BUT, could be better indoor video and have more jacks.3
The GOOD: digital audio 16-bit sound is great; ‘zoom’ sound level increase works well; love the joystick controls; manual adjustments are good. Outdoor video is good. Tiny battery. Very very lightweight. 30x zoom rocks – WHEN you use a TRIPOD!
The BAD: No microphone jack. No S-Video jack. No earphone / headphone jack. Moderate to low light video is cr*p compared to my 8-year old Sony Hi8 camcorder.
The UGLY: There is no S-video jack, and the miniplug in front for external audio/video connections is very loose and you lose connection when moving the camera around, so you can’t watch live video on an external monitor consistantly.

IF it had a better external video/audio connector and better medium/low light video, I would love this camcorder; but like I said, I bought this to replace my 8-year old Sony Hi8 camcorder – but the old Sony works better indoors for the ’school play’ than does this unit. Very dissapointed with the grainy digital artifacts at indoor lighting. If video indoor was better, and it had the external jacks, I would love the Pansonic PV-GS59. Too bad, as this unit had so much promise to be an outstanding camcorder other than lowlight issues and lack of external connectors. If I had to do it over again, I would shop for a new Sony Hi8 camcorder instead.

great product and excellent seller!5
i’m totally satisfied with this camcorder. it fill every expectatives i could have about it. i don’t agree with the complaints about the bad sound and bad video in low light. in fact, i’m amazed about the way it can film in very low light (more than i can hope). obviously the quality isn’t perfect, it’s a little grainy but, if you want perfection, then go for an expensive professional cam. the only problem i can detect in it is the difficult for keep it controlled in full zoom (which is amazing) without shaking but, consider that my girlfriend can keep it reasonably steady in full zoom, i think it must be my own fault.

otherwise here is a noticeable point i want to show and it is about the seller. i bought it from electronicsexpo and i have only good comments about they. they’re totally professionals. my first cam came with a manufacture malfuction in the lcd. i told they and they inmediatly solved the problem properly. they send me a new cam in replace the damaged. they also were too friendly and comprehensive people with me. i definitely recomend this great camcorder and more definitely recomend electronicsexpo as an excellent seller.

please, sorry for my little english.

Product was as described, but TOO fat for my Kodak camera2
I had read about another Patriot SDHC flash card being too thick, but not about this particular one, so I decided to make the plunge. I thought because it was the “Iris” series, that it would not be the same: Wrong!

I put it into my newly purchased Kodak Playsport HD camcorder. It went in OK, but had to press it a little hard to get it to securely seat. I used it to record a bit, also with no problems. However, when I went to eject the card, it would not release out of my camera. I had to get a pair of tweezers in order to extract it. It was then that I knew that perhaps ALL Patriot cards are manufactured a little thicker than normal.

I then purchased two other card brands: an A-Data 16 GB class 6 SDHC just like this, and an 8 GB Transcend microSDHC with adapter. Both work flawlessly with my camera with no insertion/removal issues. At this point, I returned it to Amazon for a refund.

I will not buy another Patriot branded flash card for this very issue. Given that this has been more than 1 person’s experience, I believe there is a manufacturing defect going on with their products.

Satified Costumer5
Very please with this product. Just work great from the start. I got “edata” 32gb before this one and give up due to writing error when using it with my Panasonic DMZ-ZS3. This one is just flow less. With the price on this one, it’s not bad at all. I am very happy with this product and hopefully will benefit my review for some costumer who got in with same problem as mine.

dlsr worthy5
i’m using this card in a canon XSi. this card is very fast, allowing me to take burts of photos very easily, not worrying about the “busy” or “wait” you might see with class 2 or 4 cards. this card is simple, and the way a card should be. is has been very reliable with data retention, and i have not had any problems with it. if you use sd cards along with an sd card reader instead of flash drives, as an ever-expanding flash drive, then you might as well buy a class 10 card, but for everyone else the speed is more than fast enough.

Pros: fast, reliable…it even looks nice. seriously, what else is there to say about a card, what else can someone rate a card on?

Cons: there are fast cards out there (not that you would need one) and there are larger capacities (even though i can easily take 1300
12 megapixel photos on my camera using only the 8gb card)

What Customers are Saying:

The cutest socks ever!5
I had already purchased these for my baby boy…and because I found them to be SO cute I decided to order a few more to have on hand to give as Baby Shower gifts or Newborn gifts….although there is a maximum of 3 it will allow you to purchase at one time.
It is such an original and useful gift. The bright colors are perfect for the array of baby boy clothes now available.
The only thing is that the cute-cute-cute! box that they came in lists from 0-12 months and my son is almost 3 months and they are already a bit tight on him…doubt they will fit when he is 6 months old….so you can say that they run small.

very cute (but overpriced)3
I purchased these socks as a gift for a baby shower. When they arrived, I inspected them and they are VERY cute – exactly as pictured. Also, you can’t really tell from the photo, but the box they come in looks like a mini sneaker box, and it’s cute too. I saw other brands with similar sneaker-style socks, but those have “laces” that are woven into the sock pattern. I chose these because of the sewn-on bow that I feel gives these socks a more realistic look. However, that same bow is a negative to the product, because the ribbon used to make them is not sealed at the ends, and a couple of the bows were showing signs of unraveling. That is unacceptable for socks as expensive as these! For a gift, these are sure to be a crowd pleaser, even if they do fall apart later. But if you’re shopping for your own kids and looking for durability, these may not be for you. Of course you could always use a fray control product (or even a dab of superglue) on the ends, but again that’s too much work for socks at this price point.

I’ve read many reviews about how these socks run small and the kids can’t wear them long, but when I inspected the socks, I slipped a couple of them on my hand (which I’d say is medium sized). They are very stretchy, and I pulled them down about one inch shy of my wrist. With that, I feel like they will get some decent use. I can’t see why a sock that fits almost my whole hand wouldn’t fit a child’s foot. Then again, I don’t have any kids so I’m not really sure about how fast they grow!

Compare Prices on Francis Bacon – A film by David Hinton

Francis Bacon revolutionised figurative painting in the 20th century. The English painter unmasked his subjects in a provocative and ruthless manner. Deformed bodies, grimacing faces and the materiality of colour make us aware of brutality and sexuality, existential abysses and the fears of existence. Works like the portrait Pope Innocent X from Velázquez inspired him just as much as Eisenstein s epic film The Battleship Potemkin for his famous motif: the Scream. Author Melvyn Bragg accompanies the painter throughout his day. This begins in his London atelier, leads us on to his favourite pub and ends up in a gambling club in Soho. **International Emmy,

Utterly Fascinating View of Francis Bacon5
I can’t praise this film enough. It is all Bacon being interviewed, very very perceptively by Melvin Bragg, thoroughly laced with images of his paintings and those of other artists. It gives an excellent portrait of Bacon – by Bacon – in 4 different locales, including his studio, which is of itself a stunning work of art. His incisive comments on his work, that of other artists (Velazquez, Van Gogh, Ingres and a few he doesn’t care for), his working methods and inspirations, as well views on art in general are something I’ve not seen regarding any other artist, period. As a plus, Bacon comes off as a totally honest, open and extremely likable person. I think that even those who don’t like Bacon’s art will find the film fascinating. Bottom line: the only flaw I can see is that it only runs about 55 minutes, I wish it were 10 hours or more.

A New Player In The Point & Shoot Realm4
As with all new electronic toys, I had to take this particular model for a test drive before wrapping it up as a gift for a family member who is absolutely sold on nothing else but point and shoot cameras. Myself owning several Nikon & Canon film/DSLR systems over the years, I have to admit that I’ve never been a huge fan of point and shoot cameras. Surprisingly I did find that the Nikon P90 was definitely worthy of a second look. By far, this camera is a major leap over the much maligned Nikon P80.

Packed with an incredibly sweet 24x optical zoom (26-624mm) lens, the 4 way Vibration Reduction system incorporates Optical Image Stabilization to an ISO capability of 6400. In Sport Continuous Scene Mode, the P90 is capable of 15fps high-speed shooting at up to 45 frames per burst. When shooting outdoors in various transitions I was pleasantly surprised that the P90 operated smoothly without the usual demons associated with the older P80 system. It delivered an array of great photographs in both auto, sports and manual modes that required absolutely no editing.

Like all point and shoots, the P90 does have its limitations indoors. However, this system can be tweaked to deliver some outstanding indoor photographs. The bottom line is proper settings. A basic fix is the VR (Vibration Reduction) feature. This should be activated, especially indoors. For those that insist on shooting in auto mode and in low light situations, the noise gremlins are indeed going to be noticeable due to a higher preset ISO. This will undoubtedly lead to dark and out of focus photographs. To alleviate that scenario I suggest that if auto is the preference, try shooting in a stationary, programmed auto mode. This will at least give the photographer options to work with.

Another great feature is its 3″ tilting LCD screen. The LCD screen has a protective anti-glare coating. The tilted screen is a nice tool especially for shooting in the prone position. I only question the extension arm’s durability over time. Add in the Best Shot Selector (BSS),Red-Eye, Smile and Blink Proof features and you have the whole package.

In video mode, average quality is produced at 24 frames per second at 16:9 aspect ratio. HD would have been a sweet addition. As with all new digital cameras it comes down to memory card speed and top shelf batteries. Use of no name batteries can easily short out the system or leak. I recommend that buyers spend the extra bucks on SDHC cards and a durable tripod. The Nikon Coolpix P90 comes packed with (1) EN/EL5 Li-ion rechargeable battery, battery charger, USB cable, audio/video cable, strap, lens cap, one year warranty and software cd.

Seasoned point and shoot owners will undoubtedly enjoy all the bells and whistles that are packed onto this system. Indeed, it is the next best thing to a DSLR. As with all point and shoots the bottom line is convenience. Overall, I remain impressed with the Nikon P90.

It’s a Point & Shoot camera5
The Nikon Coolpix P90 is what it is, a Point & Shoot Camera. It is not a DSLR and was never designed to replace a DSLR. Duh!

I do a lot of back country travel both in 4X4 vehicles and on foot and the P90 is a dream come true. It’s light and packs easily on my belt, it’s versatile and the super zoom lets me frame shots without climbing all over a mountain. It has easy to use controls and I can shift in seconds from a macro shot of a cactus blossom to an action shot of a javalina running along the river bottom. I would love to take the DSLR guy on some of my hikes and let him pack a camera, tripod and three or four lenses around for the day. I wonder who will get all the shots and who will still be several miles back trying to shift lenses!

Honestly, I’ve been the whole SLR/Darkroom route and I have eight film cameras and a dozen lenses sitting in a box in the closet. I started using digital cameras back when you paid a lot of money for a 2 megapixal camera. I bought a Coolpix 4500 and took almost 3000 pictures with it. I banged it around, dropped it in the dirt and it never stopped taking really good pictures.

Nikon knows how to make great cameras and the Coolpix P90 is a great camera. Don’t let the “flamers” fool you with their horrific reviews. They buy a Point & Shoot camera and complain bitterly that it doesn’t do the same thing a DSLR does. Wow, I suppose the same person buys a Saturn and complains because it doesn’t handle like a BMW M6.

I’ve been playing with my new P90 and have over a hundred pictures in 5 days. It’s going to be a great camera and a fantastic travel companion.

Like a Dream5
This camera has sparked my interest as a photography hobbyist. The zoom issues described in previous reviews are easily solved by tweaking the iso, aperture or shutter speed. The camera also has several settings such as aperture or Shutter priority modes to assist with evenly regulating exposure making it easy to use for 1st timers. After reading the manual every picture i took came out in amazing quality. The tilt screen makes taking pictures at impossible angles easy. it also comes with Vibration reduction to stabilize said zoom shots
Noise reduction to help when high iso is necessary.

In camera digital lighting and editing.

This camera may not be a DSLR but in my opinion it takes pictures just as well with half the effort.

What Customers are Saying:

I’ll be a pro at composting by the end of the season5
This is a great, clear cut, interesting and fun-to-read book! Stu Campbell is able to take what, to newcomers, can be a daunting task and not only present us with the basics to feel comfortable but he also translates some of the scientific “mumbo-jumbo” of how and why compost works into layman’s terms. He includes real “recipes” and approaches to try as well as suppling a list (though not nearly complete) of good materials to compost as well as what NOT to use. A short “troubleshooting” chapter called “Things You Might Worry About a Little” is a bit over the top for beginners but is part of what makes this book valuable for the seasoned composter. Let It Rot! is a not-to-technical, well-written, easy-to-read guide that takes the “yuck” out of your composting ideas! Perfect for beginners and a great refresher for near professional composters.

It’s An Artform5
There’s more to composting than just sticking a bunch of dead things in a pile and waiting for it to rot – although that will work. It can be a virtual art form, and this book proves it. From building a compost container to adding the ingredients, this book leaves out nothing. Handy tips on speeding up the decomposition, encouraging worms, creating leaf-mold, using it once you’ve made it. You’ll never look at an apple core quite the same way again. In this day and age with the emphasis placed heavily on recycling, this book provides heaps of how-to’s in getting the most out of your waste.

Creating the best garden ever starts at the bottom5
Composting, in case you aren’t terribly familiar with it yet, is simply the practice of allowing waste matter to rot and decompose until it’s fit to be tilled right into the soil. However, while the basic concept is as old as mother nature and often very easy to execute, it also helps to know more about it. What materials should you compost, and which should you avoid? Do you have to worry about animals or flies in your compost? How do you make sure your compost will turn into dirt and not a slimy, stinky sludge?

While nearly every gardening book these days has a section on composting and most of these are enough to get you by, Stu Campbell’s Let It Rot! is an entertaining, folksy and in-depth take on the art that will see you through nearly any foreseeable difficulty. I was certainly able to successfully compost with the simpler directions in other books, but there’s information in here I wish I’d had back when I first started. For instance, now I know the cobweb-like stuff that I feared was mold was the natural activity of Actinomycetes, a part-bacteria, part-fungus organism that aids decomposition in certain parts of a compost pile.

Mr. Campbell’s book also introduces a great many different types of compost piles and composters that you can use, depending on what you’re trying to accomplish, what area you have to work with, or what you’re trying to decompose. He also suggests many ways to use compost in and around your garden, and how to get the most out of it. I’m glad I picked up Mr. Campbell’s book, because I learned an incredible amount of new material!

From Library Journal
A readable, quietly humorous introduction to composting, this covers reasons to compost; differing approaches; how decomposition works; various methods, ingredients, and containers; how to speed decomposition; and how to use the end result. Campbell is an experienced gardener, and the book goes into great detail, but the text remains clear and interesting. The simple black-and-white illustrations vary between decorative sketches and straightforward diagrams; they could have been more frequent and more informative. The bibliography lists 14 other books on composting; a list of sources of composting supplies is also given. An interesting treatment of a basic subject for general readers, this is recommended for all gardening collections needing material on compost heaps.
