Our shop builds prototypes of things that get really hot. Our designs kind of make it to autocad and kind of make it to a whiteboard. No two things are the same. Almost all our work is with metal. things can be a few inches but many assemblies are over 10 feet. We had to run out to grab a set quickly and bought these on little more than a wild guess.
We use these quite a lot. Working through steel I beams, it took quite a lot of pressure to keep the bit cutting. In a drill press it cut beautiful chip and would go through mild or stainless with ease. The blades lasted quite a while, and when we did burn out a bit, it was almost always when we couldn’t get enough pressure on the bit to start it cutting cleanly. Outlasts any other drill bit in the shop by a good bit. The holes they cut (that’s the goal after all) are quite good, better than just about any 117 point drill and better than many 135s.
One of the really nice places for the pilot point is when you are drilling square tubing and end up having to start a hole across from the welded face then punch through the weld. It’s one of those things that can eat up many drill bits. These do fine.
The down sides that kept this from being being a 5 star:
The pressure before the flute gets started is higher than for normal 117 or 135 drill bits.
The bits produce chip that would get to a couple feet long and wrap around the chuck. The only time I have ever complained about a tool for producing too nice a chip! Some kind of geometry change to break the chip before 6″ would be great.
They can grab, and we have bent some bits in hand drills.
You still need a set of 135s (or 117s) for overboring a hole. Without the pilot these bits are useless.
Bottom line: 90% of the time this is the set that people reach for. Buy 1 by 64th index and then buy a couple of the smaller sets to replace bits as they go. No drill bit lasts for ever and I don’t expect them to.

I had one of these for a few weeks but I returned it and purchased a Dewalt 18v drill/hammerdrill (DC925KA). The problem isn’t with the tool itself, that is why I gave it 5 stars. As fas a a small bodied cordless impact driver goes, this thing is awesome. Very well balanced and ever so light for an 18v tool. My thoughts are this is best suited for assembly or maybe taking things apart. Not for drilling holes. The downside, it is an impact driver, not a drill. The drills have speed controls and torque settings. The impact does not. Well, in a sense I guess they do but they are controlled thru the trigger, not a physical switch or dial. I had purchased the 3/8 inch keyless chuck for the impact and it worked nicely also. Once again though, this impact driver is not a drill. It does not have the features of a drill because it is a different type of tool. I was told that if I bought the impact I would never want another drill. Well, I proved that wrong. The drill is bigger and heavier BUT, it will handle a 1/2 inch drill bit. The impact and keyless chuck will not. It is 3/8″ as I stated earlier. They say the batteries last way longer on the impact driver. I do not know if this is true. When I returned the impact and told the store manager why he agreed with me. He has the same impact but he also has a drill. His words were “It really is hard if this is all you have”. Being that I am using this as a home owner type of tool and not on a job site I need something that is more universal than the impact. As I said though, if you need an impact driver, this thing is awesome. If I ever have the need for an impact this will be the one I go for, no question about it. Oh, one last thing. You cannot use this tool for lugnuts on your car. Once they are broken loose you can take them off with it and then run them back on with it. Any breaking loose and tightening MUST be done with a larger torque wrench or a lug wrench. Just figured I would throw that in as I have read some reviews where people were complaining because it wouldn’t work for that appliaction.

This magazine can drive car collectors nutty. That being said, however, we have to realize that it’s all that out there that counts. The Editor/Publisher could add more “rare” factory models (say, 1955 – 1975), and add more definitive optional equipment listings, but that might use up to much space. I’ll keep getting it.

Well, this movie starts off with the Mahler family, Nora(Rebbeca DeMornay), the mother, Neal(Keith Carradine), the father, Clea(Thora Birch), the daughter and Simon, the son, all living in a ranch ran by Nora herself, where she shares her love of horses (which are raised by her too)with Clea and especially Simon,but Neal has never really liked living there,which makes him live after her wife’s wishes, and which is tearing them both apart little by little. Then tragedy strikes the whole family, when an accident happens(which I will not reveal), leaving all the family, especially Nora heartbroken and devastated, her devastation and heartbroke blinds her of everything, she doesn’t realize that the other family members are suffering too, and are devastated too, when her mother Maggie(Ellen Burstyn) arrives to the “rescue” the family from tearing apart more than they already are after hearing the terrible news,she makes Nora realize she’s not the only sad person and that she should pay more attention to what’s going on with the family after the accident, especially Clea(Thora Birch), which is hiding a terrible feeling which is destroying her little by little.
After hearing all this you probably wonder why the movie is called NIGHT RIDE HOME, well, it is called NIGHT RIDE HOME because of a line Maggie(Burstyn)mentions to Nora while talking to her about her ride to the ranch after hearing the devastating news and realizing that Nora has never needed her help because she always only listened to her(Maggie’s)mother.
Well, I liked this movie(and recommend it) because it really gives you a look on how something terribly innocent can turn into a tragedy with you not even knowing it is happening and because it shows how families should react and deal with problems and try to solve them and that not everything in your life has to be for yourself, you have to be giving and appreciate everything and realize you are not alone in this world and have to care of others, especially your closest.
I gave the movie 4 stars because although I loved it,for me it was missing a little bit more action and I really thought the actor who played Clea’s boyfriend was completely inappropiate for her, he looked awfully young for Thora Birch, and he just didn’t fit into the character completely.
In addition of being a great story, this film contains the talent of Ellen Burstyn and the talent and beauty of American Beauty’s Thora Birch.

Not long ago a friend gave me an extra DeWalt 18 volt drill he’d come into. I’d been using a 12 volt Makita for over a decade, and I was amazed at how much more torque and battery life the DeWalt had. The same friend also had a DeWalt impact driver from the same series, and again, I was impressed how well this handled mechanical tasks usually relegated to a pneumatic impact driver. But even more impressive was how well the DeWalt worked for driving screws.
A few years ago, the major cordless tool makers started to come out with impact drivers which they marketed not to mechanics, but to carpenters. While today’s 18volt cordless drills do a pretty good job of driving screws, they still start to bog down when driving really long screws into hard or resinous wood. The slow, stall, and eventually overheat. But impact drivers don’t do this. They work on a different principle, using a motor-driven hammer to repeatedly strike an anvil that drives the output shaft. As the load increases, they switch from spinning to a rapid-fire staccato impact mode, in which every impact turns the screw a bit farther, while the motor continues to spin and bring in cooling air.
I was very pleased to discover that Amazon had a DeWalt impact driver available in a batteryless and caseless package (for those of us who already have a charger and several batteries) for about 5. I purchased mine for a mix of yard projects- this is a great tool for driving the big screws used to tie landscape timbers together- home projects, and motorcycle/scooter maintenance. And amazingly, it’s even lighter and more compact than the DEWALT DC759KA Heavy-Duty 18-Volt Ni-Cad 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit. I’m giving away my Makita 12v drill/driver to a nephew who likes tools and gadgets, and switching 100% to the DeWalt system.
